WHEN CLIENTS ASK FOR "JUST ONE GOOD PHOTO".

Updated: Oct 4, 2023

Our clients want to see their authentic selves. They want exquisite photographs and imagery to properly represent their legacy. Our client wants to see her confidence come through in photos and doesn’t feel that has to mean a full makeover transformation or elaborate wardrobe. But every now and then I have a nervous client so convinced they simply will never take a good photo. They book their photoshoot with low expectations of themselves and hoping for just one good photo.

I've never had a client back out of a photoshoot. That might not sound significant to you but every photographer has a dozen or so stories of clients who don't show or who cancel at the last minute because of nerves, or not feeling confident enough to go through with the session. It happens rarely, but once in a while I'll get an e-mail from a client whose session is coming up, they're feeling anxious, feeling insecure, with low expectations of just getting one decent photo from our session. I'll be happy if I walk away with one picture.

I've been following Lisa on Instagram for years and always thought I'm going to do a photoshoot with her one day soon but I kept putting it off. I wasn't in the shape I wanted to be in, I felt uncomfortable in front of the camera, and didn't have the right reason for a shoot. There was always a reason to say not now.

And then one day, I finally said yes. And it was one of the best decisions I've made in a long time.

They didn't lose the weight they wanted to lose, they must have been out of their mind when they booked a photoshoot, they are just too nervous to go forward, They don't have a thing to wear, everything they try on is horrendous, and...oh....they are just so very nervous about the whole thing. I get it. I have those days myself where I want to push the camera away when someone snaps a memory-maker. But here's the thing, that's not my camera. I know what I can do with a pose, light, a hug, some encouragement, and a pinch of post-shoot magic. I know I can capture whatever it is that's bothering you without making it look like we are trying to hide something. While I will never ever force a client to have their session if they're feeling this way, I will pep talk the heck out of them. Everyone feels this way occasionally. Absolutely Everyone. Confidence is my gift that I give to each and every one of my clients. I can't be giving all my secrets away here, but I'll tell you that women leave my sessions feeling like Grace Jones, even if they did not start the session that way. Now, onto clients that want just one decent photo. Not only will they get their one good photo, they will get an entire gallery of them and a much need self love session with me to boot.

“My photoshoot with Lisa made me feel comfortable in the skin that I’m in. I LOVED it, keep doing what you’re gifted to do!”
