Self Portrait Studio
A new type of self expression community

Create something magical with yourself as the muse.
love & moxie, Lisa xoxo
What previously started out as a small course called Confidence on Camera has emerged into a beautiful educational membership helping women learn to love, heal, and accept themselves through the art of self-portrait photography.

What surprised me most is how quickly I became confident and comfortable behind and in front of the camera.
Before I joined the Self Portrait Studio, I wasn’t comfortable looking at the camera. I was more of a look to the side or look away person.
Now, I say, “BRING IT”! I’m far more focused on the creative process, and what I’m trying to capture and convey with the image.
Michel VanDevender, Artist and Designer
Welcome to The Self Portrait Studio,
Here to help you find fulfillment, healing, and community through self portraiture. No photography experience necessary.
For those who pick themselves apart, photo after photo.
For those who can’t post a picture without opening FaceTune.
For those who struggle to connect who they see in the
mirror with who they see on their screen.
For those who believe they’ll never be photogenic.
For those who avoid the camera (and the hard feelings that come with it).
Enough is enough.
Before you read any further, know this:
Your feelings are valid.
You are seen.
You are heard.
You are held.
It’s tough to get in front of the camera. Some may even find it triggering. But it’s worth the discomfort. Why? Self portraiture is a powerful exercise to see yourself in a new way–the first step toward a new, healthy relationship with your face, your body, and your spirit.
Until now, your experience in front of the camera has likely been limited: It’s not easy to feel at ease with a professional photographer. There’s the crush of vulnerability coupled with the pressure to perform (you only booked an hour long session, after all). Still, you expect to do well and look your best–and when you don’t, you blame yourself. We’ve all experienced that same internal dialogue: Not photogenic enough, not thin enough, not radiant enough, not relaxed enough, not happy enough…not worthy.
The Self Portrait Studio is here to help find perspective and ease in front of the camera so you can connect with your image and ultimately, yourself. Through accountability, coaching, and community, you will use self portraiture to remember your inherent worth and see yourself the way we do: Beautiful, genuine, and enough.
Here’s what the Self Portrait Studio will help you achieve:
-
Feeling more genuine in front of the camera
-
Confidence in posing
-
How to find your best angles and incredible light
-
A deeper sense of connection to yourself
-
How to craft a self portrait shoot from mood board to post-processing
-
How to overcome fear in front of the camera
-
Self portraiture as a spiritual practice: Honoring yourself with quality time in front of the camera
-
How to let go of the weight of expectation from yourself and others
-
A passion for your imperfections
-
The blueprint to channel your inspiration whenever it strikes
Your self-esteem is being sacrificed one selfie at a time.
And no amount of filters will make it the self love strategy we want it to be.
It’s time to find peace and acceptance within yourself.
It’s time to create outside of your comfort zone.
It’s time to see yourself in a new way–without filters and the front-facing camera.
That mindset shift you’ve been manifesting? It’s closer than ever before. In fact, it’s right in front of you–you’ve just been seated on the wrong side of the camera.
Around here, we’re trading selfies for self portraits in the name of healing.
We’re turning our back on the front facing camera and shifting our focus outward for the love of self love.
We’re seeing ourselves in a new way–in all our glorious imperfection–to remember our inherent worth.

The Self-Portrait Studio is a special place. Over the years I’ve been in many groups for business and development, creative classes, personal development etc. I have never been with such warm, encouraging, supportive and inspiring women. That is most definitely a reflection on you and the people you attract Lisa. I’m looking forward to learning and growing more with all of you.
— Nancy Wallis
I love the membership! Lisa has an incredible ability to connect with amazing women and curate a space that feels like a safe and loving community, yet is also expansive and creative. She also sees people deeply, beyond the surface. She sees their truth, their beauty, and their potential.

YOU'LL USE THE CAMERA
IN YOUR POCKET.
YES, REALLY.
ALL YOU NEED IS A SMARTPHONE.
ACCOUNTABILITY, BONDING,
& OUR TIME TOGETHER
I believe in accountability and showing up for SPS members. You won’t need to login at a certain time to access materials, with the exception of our Thursday 9am pst calls, which are always recorded. You’ll have access 24/7 to our member community where you can take your time with the material, ask questions, bond with community members and Lisa. Your learning experience with me will be special, and the cost of membership is intentionally affordable.

Lisa is a master at creating scene, mood and, of course, swoon-worthy images for her clients. She also teaches others (beautifully, I might add) to take the reins and shoot their own self portraits in the Self Portrait Studio. I am proud to say I am a member and most of the images on my website were taken by yours truly.

FREQUENTLY ASKED
WHO IS THE MEMBERSHIP FOR?
This is not a membership for photographers, although they are certainly welcome — SPS is for the person who has limited experience with photography, is new to self-portraits and who would like more confidence in photos.
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO JOIN? NOW OR DURING A CHALLENGE?
I highly recommend joining at the beginning of a quarterly challenge like the one happening October 6th, where I will teach the Self Portrait Course live first, then move the group into a new 8-week photo challenge. This is perfect for you if you know you need extra accountability.
WHAT IS THE 8-WEEK PHOTO CHALLENGE?
These challenges are so much fun! At this point you'll be comfortable with the camera & tech plus you'll know the other SPS members (and me) well. Weekly creative prompts are posted to the group along with plenty of resources to inspire your sessions. You'll have a week to shoot and share your images to the community. We will review these as a group live every Thursday, 9am pst. These calls are live weekly q&a sessions with Lisa.
DO YOU PROVIDE MAKE UP TIPS OR HOW TO EDIT UNDER-EYE CIRCLES?
Our goal is to show you how to find and use the most even and flattering light for your sessions avoiding the harsh light responsible for casting the shadows in the first place. Knowing how to find lighting goes a long way. We also talk about the angles and planes of your face in relation to how the camera will actually read them. You'll love access to the SPS Library of workshops for extra resources.
I'VE SEEN THE GORGEOUS PHOTOS YOU SHARE ON SOCIAL, DO I HAVE TO SHARE MINE?
Not unless you want to. These early sessions are just for you. I encourage you to remove the pressure to share them or make them “on brand”. Again, these are for you. This experience is just for you. Share when you feel excited to share what you have learned. That being said, many of our members are proudly sharing their own self portrait sessions on social media and their websites!
Any lingering questions that weren’t answered here? Don’t hesitate to reach out with any clarifications or concerns. We’re here to help!

WHEN DO WE START TAKING SELF-PORTRAITS? WHAT IF I NEED HELP?
Not only will you have weekly access to me on zoom calls, you will have access to the entire SPS community hosted on Mighty Networks. I like to keep the groups small (usually less than 10 women) so you'll have plenty of access to me for help.
We have weekly live calls with Lisa to cover the course highlights in more depth and answer your individual questions as you move through the course material. By the final week of the course you will have already done your first self portrait sessions and you'll be ready for the creative prompts in the 8-week challenge
IS THERE A MINIMUM COMMITMENT?
Unlike other memberships we do not ask you to make a minimum commitment to the Studio. It is our hope that you will enjoy developing your skills over several challenges and find our resource library and guest speakers inspiring enough to stay. Several of our members have been for us since the studio was founded.
I WANT TO DEVELOP MY OWN STYLE & POINT OF VIEW.
Self portraits are a fantastic visual benchmark of your progress. A quick flip through previous sessions will show how much you have evolved creatively in a short period of time. We always cap off our 8-week challenges by revisiting the first prompt in the series. Members continue to be astounded by the quick evolution of their personal editing, confidence, and style in that short period of time.
TALK TO ME ABOUT TECH, WHAT KIND OF CAMERA DO I NEED?
One of the ways I keep things simple and stress-free for myself, is by shooting everything on my iPhone. SPS members shoot everyone on their mobile phone cameras with a tripod and natural lighting.
IS THIS MEMBERSHIP A TAX WRITE OFF?
If you’re running a business where you need photography or ongoing education, then you generally can write off this class 100% as an educational expense. Please double check with your accountant or tax website in your country for more information.
THE POST SELF-PORTRAIT GLOW IS REAL.
THERE IS NO ONE TO IMPRESS BUT YOURSELF
Self-portraits are an excellent way to evolve your self perception. Each time I wrap a session and sit down to look at the photos (it's imperative that you don't skip this part), I see myself in an entirely new way, with increased compassion and satisfaction.
SPS members are encouraged to share images they feel are unsuccessful along with the ones they feel most proud of. Both offer an opportunity to expand our perception of what a successful image needs to look like. We learn why we prefer certain images over others and that successful don't mean perfect. When the only restriction is that you must be in the photo, you can do whatever you like and it doesn't need to be perfect.
Let’s just say, when I found Lisa, I’d rather clean our toilets than be in portraits. Lisa’s confidence spilled over into me, and has expanded my comfort zone to such an extent that I landed smack in the middle of being….well, comfortable!
Comfortable on camera, comfortable in my own skin, in my own body —being seen as ME.
That confidence has supported me as I launched my first program, refined how I work with clients, as I’m building my website and showing up on social media, as EXACTLY MYSELF.
