Your photoshoot is on the calendar, and now it’s time to talk props. Every personal branding session is different (it is personal, after all), but there are a few tried-and-true props that I recommend to every one of my clients. Depending on your likes, dislikes, and brand, these props just work, and they’re a great way to infuse some personality into your brand.
If you’re reading this thinking, Lisa, how can my branding session be unique if we always use the same props?, listen up: if you’re building a personal brand, you are already unique. Just because you aren’t the first CEO to enjoy a class of rosé doesn’t make that any less true! Plus, this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to all the incredible things we can incorporate into your session.
My go-to #1 prop for obvious reasons. If java isn’t your jam, keep on reading, but if you love it like I do, make sure you bring some to your branding session. Whether it’s in your favorite coffee mug or a branded to-go cup, it’ll still get the message across: But first, COFFEE.
If you’re running a business in the 21st century, chances are you can do a lot of it from your phone. Or maybe you just love scrolling the ‘Gram, or texting friends. For better or worse, your phone is probably a big part of your life and business, so it deserves some time in the spotlight, too.

Where the work happens! Most of my clients bring their laptops to their branding sessions, but we can also stop by your office to get a cute shot at your desk, or stop by a coffee shop if you tend to work there a lot of the time.
Need I say more? If some kind of cocktail is a part of your brand–or just a part of your average weekend (or week day…)–then pop the cork and let’s CHEERS. Part of a personal branding session is showing off the PERSONAL side, and kicking back with a glass of Pinot totally counts.
FAVORITE SNACK OR DRINK
Whether it’s a post-workout protein bar, gluten free lemon cupcake, or giant bowl of popcorn, think about your fave 3PM snack or guilty pleasure when you’re planning your branding session props.
Time to bust out your planner if you’re a pen-to-paper kind of gal. Or throw in your favorite book or magazine to get some candid shots that show how you pass the time.
Sunglasses are a life-saver when it comes to the question, What do I do with my hands? Plus, they help us shoot in just about any lighting situation, and they’re just cute.
My personal favorite prop of all time! Hats are a helpful prop when you need something to do with your hands. Or keep the sun off your face. Or finish an outfit. Or look trendy or sporty. Or really anything, because a hat is always a good bet.
When you’re walking around downtown, you probably have a bag with you. Your branding shoot is no different! We want to capture you in your element, so grab your laptop bag, purse, backpack, or cute clutch for a few pics.
OTHER PEOPLE & PETS
This isn’t really a prop, but it’s a great way to show even more behind-the-scenes or interaction. Incorporate your kids or family, a girlfriend, or customers and clients to round out your personal branding session.
Now that you now how to have fun and be comfortable in your photos, it's time to book your shoot & start planning ways to put your gorgeous gallery to work for you.
